Junior Ranger Program Expansion as Sagamore Hill
The Junior Ranger Programs (JRP) at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site (SAHI) is already in place for 4th grade students. Badges are awarded to children who have completed a tour of the house and have successfully answered questions about their visit. A grant has been awarded to SAHI by Unilever, contingent upon The Friends of Sagamore Hill raising matching funds for the program. The Friends must match the $7,250 Unilever grant by October 28, 2005, in order to obtain this funding.
The expansion would involve officially starting two JRP’s at the Old Orchard Museum, as well as a new JRP on the SAHI Website. The present JRP is very popular, and is utilized by Cub Scouts and Brownies, as well as schoolchildren on class visits to SAHI.
Borglum Presidential Eagle
The North Room outdoor Presidential Eagle was restored over this past summer by Shelley Sass of Sass Conservation, Inc. The North Room was built in 1905, and the eagle had been badly eroded by acid rain and salt sea air. It is now gleaming gold in honor of its centennial. Liberty Title Agency and the Navy League sponsored the restoration. Pictured under the shining eagle are (l. to r.) Roger Bing, L.I. Navy League President and Brian H. Madden, President of Liberty Title Agency.
